Tooth Extraction

Gentle, careful removal of damaged, decayed, or impacted teeth — simple and complex surgical extractions performed with care at Serene Family Dental.

When a Tooth Needs to Come Out, We Make It as Comfortable as Possible

Our first priority is always to save a tooth. When a tooth is too severely decayed, fractured, or affected by advanced gum disease to be restored, extraction becomes the right decision for your overall oral health. At Serene Family Dental, we perform both simple and surgical extractions with care and precision, ensuring you are comfortable throughout.

A simple extraction is used when the tooth is fully visible above the gumline. After thorough local anaesthesia, the tooth is gently loosened and removed with forceps. Most simple extractions are straightforward and completed quickly once the area is numb.

A surgical extraction is required when a tooth has broken off at the gumline, is impacted (unable to fully erupt), has curved or fused roots, or must be removed in sections. A small incision is made in the gum to access the tooth, and surrounding bone may be gently adjusted to allow safe removal. Sedation options are available for patients who feel anxious about the procedure.

After every extraction we provide clear written aftercare instructions, pain management guidance, and a follow-up plan. We also discuss replacement options such as dental implants, bridges, or dentures so you always know your next steps. We serve patients from across Western Sydney including Penrith, Blacktown, Mount Druitt, and St Marys.

Gentle Extractions with a Clear Plan Forward

Pain-Free Technique

We take time to ensure the anaesthetic is fully effective before starting. You should feel pressure and movement but not pain. Topical numbing gel is applied before any injection.

Same-Day Urgent Appointments

Severe dental pain should not wait. We hold same-day appointments for urgent extractions so you can get relief quickly without a long referral wait.

Sedation Available

If dental anxiety makes the thought of an extraction stressful, we offer sedation options to help you feel calm and at ease throughout your appointment.

Tooth Replacement Guidance

Losing a tooth does not have to be permanent. We discuss all options — implants, bridges, and dentures — so you can make an informed decision about restoring your smile.

Tooth Extraction FAQs

The area is thoroughly numbed with local anaesthetic before any extraction begins, so you should feel pressure but not pain. We apply topical numbing gel before any injection. Post-operative discomfort is usually mild and managed with over-the-counter pain relief. Sedation is available if you feel anxious.
A simple extraction involves removing a fully erupted, visible tooth using dental forceps — quick and straightforward. A surgical extraction is needed when the tooth is impacted, broken below the gumline, or has complex roots. The dentist makes a small incision in the gum and may remove the tooth in sections to minimise trauma.
Most patients are comfortable within 2 to 3 days after a simple extraction. Surgical extractions may take 4 to 7 days for the initial discomfort to settle. Soft tissue healing takes 1 to 2 weeks. We provide detailed aftercare instructions — keeping the area clean, avoiding smoking, and not rinsing vigorously in the first 24 hours all help the socket heal well.
Yes. Extractions are a general dental item covered under most Extras health insurance policies. We process all major health fund claims on the spot via HICAPS and will advise your out-of-pocket cost before treatment begins.
Bite down gently on the gauze pad for 30–45 minutes to help the clot form. Avoid rinsing, spitting, or using a straw for the first 24 hours. Eat soft foods and keep the area clean after the first day with a gentle warm salt rinse. Avoid smoking. Contact us immediately if you experience heavy bleeding, severe pain after 3 days, or signs of infection such as swelling and fever.
